Why is it that on some TV channels, the commercials are much louder than the show is? I was watching a court show on TruTV and it was

horrible. I could not keep it at a happy medium. The commercials were so much louder than the show. Do you think this is on purpose or just happens?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

It is totally intentional, advertisers know that people are likely to get up and grab items from the kitchen. If the commercial gets louder it improves the odds that it will be heard.

Here is an interesting test. Close your eyes the next time a commercial comes on, often times you can tell exaclty what is going on even if you are not watching that way even if you wander around the commercial may still work.

It is a bit of a backfire in some houses though as I know quite a few people who simply mute the TV the moment the commercials come up.

It is intentional and annoying. I usually mute the TV before I go to the kitchen or whatever so their little ploy doesn't work in my house. :p

They do it so you can hear it in the bathroom.
