Why is Abraham Lincoln (one of the most loved Presidents in US history) on the penny (the most hated piece of US currency)?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Nobody really hates the penny.
The US Penny (cent) has not always bared the likeness of former President Abraham Lincoln. The US Mint changed the penny to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Lincoln in 1909, below is a photo of the 1908 penny.
This quote is from Ed Moy the director of the US Mint and it sheds a bit of light on why the penny received the likeness of Lincoln
“These coins are a tribute to one of our greatest Presidents whose legacy has had a lasting impact on our country," “He believed all men were created equal, and his life was a model for accomplishing the American dream through honesty, integrity, loyalty, and a lifetime of education."
