Why haven't you joined the Mahalo GoTeam yet? It pays M$10 per hour, up to 40 hours a week!

If you are a first timer, then sign up for GoTeam Evaluation. A Mahalo vertical manager will work with you one-on-one to see if you are GoTeam material!
If you feel like you are ready and you want to find out as soon as possible, then sign up for the GoTeam Test. I will give you a blank Mahalo page to fill out, and if you can fill it out correctly to the specifications on the Mahalo GoTeam page in 60 minutes or less, then you will be on the GoTeam!
If you are brand new to Mahalo, then we would love to have you on the GoTeam, but you will first need to get familiar with how to write a Mahalo page. The Mahalo Tasks system is the perfect way to get your feet wet, so go on over there and do ten tasks, and then sign up for GoTeam Evaluation.
Much more information is available here -- along with a never-moving and very convenient sign-up button:

I hope to see YOU in the Mahalo GoTeam room on Mahalo IRC Chat soon!

M$1. $10 Mahalo = $7.50 US. The minimum wage is $7.25. Anyone educated enough to write on a computer can earn better than minimum wage.
2. It would take much more than an hour to research a decent page, even if one is familiar with the subject in advance. If you are getting people to do it, I am sure the resulting pages are of little use or value to anyone.

M$Will you be on the Goatteam @albanian? I'll give you a dime an hour to write about beer and politics!
While a handful of pages make money, most of them don't make anything.
Hi Albanian. In my opinion, there are two other things to factor in here. The first thing is your page management earnings. That's $1000+ for some people right there (and sometimes a lot more). The second thing is your non-Mahalo income. If your family makes $4000 per month or $6000 per month, an extra $1000+ from page management and another extra $1000 from the Go Team still makes a difference. You can lease a 2009 SL550 for that if you really wanted.

You also left out that the writer has to cover there own social security and medicare in self-employment tax if they go over $400 U.S. in earnings. Which at 15.3% of $7.50 U.S dollars makes earnings of $6.05 dollars per hour.
While I think there are some pages that could be written well in an hour, I will never sit a computer and do pages I find uninteresting. I like choosing what I like to write about and look at the money as a bonus.
Thank you for your honest answer, Albanian. If people are able to go out and earn more than minimum wage, of course they should. Some of us who are very educated live in areas where this is not possible at the moment, though, and are unable to move. It is a niche opportunity. No doubt about that.
Geeze, we got a regular Mr. McMoney Bags over here! 7.25 an hour is currently better than my unemployment benefits, which are a joke, and its certainly better than the hundred ignored job applications I've spent time and energy on. Move to one of the worst job markets in the country, like Muskegon MI, and you will take back this statement: "Anyone educated enough to write on a computer can earn better than minimum wage." Educated people still have trouble getting jobs.
But yes you are correct, the pay is meager and the work can be boring. really I'm just doing it to help myself learn about things i wouldn't ever learn by myself, and i think its good experience for a person like me.
Ive always liked your honesty though, we can agree to disagree.
Why would I "waste" time on Mahalo when I could be making far more doing freelance work? Well, if you've ever done freelance work, you'll know it's not regular, and it's not guaranteed. I may work 60+ hours a week for a proposal, then have nothing on my table for a week. I use Mahalo to fill in the blanks where I would ordinarily be making nothing at all. I spread my effort out across Mahalo, including Q&A, tasks, QC, and so on. I do a GO Team shift maybe once every other week, because that's when I can fit it in.
Especially in freelancing, I believe in diversification. I do work on a couple of online sites that do up front payments and residuals in addition to my own business work. I also believe in constant learning. I've learned about a ton of things by being assigned Mahalo tasks of one form or another.

M$I have a "handful" of "how to"... but I have no idea where to post it.
What is the "GO team", "How to Team", "Guru Team" and "QC Team" (quality control???)
thanks!
Thank you for your input on this thread, @skristoff! I am posting these links below for Gloda. I hope you find these Gloda!

Try those for starters!
The Mahalo Go Team creates and updates regular Mahalo pages during designated shift times.
The How To Team creates how to pages.
The Guru Team works on questions and answers for some of Mahalo's sister sites.
The QC Team reviews tasks completed by other people and makes sure that they meet the requirements of Mahalo.

M$Does this mean it's now possible to get accepted on the team simply by building one page?
Assuming of course you can already build a good page in an hour, and know your way around Mahalo pretty well?

M$The vertical managers are resolving even as we speak, to get to all the pages that have been requested in the past few months. Hopefully your request will be processed soon.
So far as the GoTeam goes, you have to be ready for just about anything. You are better off requesting pages, as you have been, if you just want to write about one topic.

M$A vertical manager works with each new GoTeamer, for as long as they need direction or help. The vertical manager chooses which pages the new GoTeamer works on. If you want to just make pages on your own, then yes, you can still just do tasks. :) Tasks are hidden right now in the "Mahalo How To" link at the top of each Mahalo page, under the search bar. Once you click on the link for "Mahalo How To", then click on the button to the right that says "View More Tasks".

M$Hi Gloda! Welcome to Mahalo! We are glad that you joined up! My heartfelt suggestion is that you read up on how to write a mahalo page and then go pick a task out of our task system: http://www.mahalo.com/tasks?filter=open
A member of the quality control team will review your task within a week. Maybe do one task a day, until you have a few pages approved. Then, review that page on how to write a Mahalo page. Use some of the more advanced tips on there, and update your pages.
Once you have the hang of updating Mahalo pages, then visit the Mahalo GoTeam page and sign up for GoTeam Evaluation!
Hi Again Gloda! Lower down in this thread, you asked where to get more information about the various ways to participate on Mahalo. I am posting these links here so that hopefully you will receive them in an e-mail notification. Please e-mail me at goteam@mahalo.com if I can help you in any way!
I hope you find these Gloda!

Could you tell me how it is different from mananging pages independently (leaving the hourly rate issue)?
Thanks

M$GoTeam is different from managing pages independently because you are not alone! You are in an IRC chat room with a bunch of other page managers (PMs). For me, that made all the difference. Motivation is the most difficult part of being a PM, in my opinion. I find it much easier to get motivated if there are others working alongside me. There are also vertical managers there who answer your questions and make sure your pages are going in the direction that they need to. Immediate feedback is way more gratifying than the QC feedback I get in a week, when I do tasks.
Cherise, that's the #1 reason I love the Go Team. When you work alongside other people, everything changes. I'm much more productive on Mahalo when logged into the Go Team room than when I'm not logged in.
Some of the pages I did in under an hour:
http://www.mahalo.com/calgary-stampede-coupons
http://www.mahalo.com/greyson-michael-chance
http://www.mahalo.com/royal-ontario-museum-coupons
http://www.mahalo.com/salsaritas-coupons
They're starting to make good money now too. And as for the $7.50 an hour, that's not technically what your getting paid. If you take your monthly total Mahalo dollars times .75, it's more than what you'd make at 7.50. But hey, do you know a work at home gig that pays more that ISN'T a scam?? Plus, Mahalo pays through PayPal, who's monthly "allowance" is $500 anyway.
I'm a Technical Communications student and this "job" is awesome practice for me to learn researching methods and writing styles.
My brain.

M$I don't know about your personal situation, but if you upgrade your paypal account you can get a paypal debit card or even transfer money to your personal checking account. My limit is 3,500 a day for credit purchases and 400 day for cash. I don't think I have a limit on bank transfers. I do think you have to "prove" yourself with a bank account to be verified.

Sorry if you already knew all this, but it might help someone who doesn't :)
Yeah, thanks for those links too. Yup, it's true, I do forget that pages done through the go team are likely to be earners, rather than the lame non-lucrative stuff I've experimented with for the most part. hehehehe :)

M$7.50 is great an hour... you're getting it, on top of residuals. You're not spending gas. It's a great earning opportunity for those who can do it.

M$Thank you for your helpful input on this thread, @Cosmopinkice! Not just for this answer, but also for your informative comment regarding upgrading PayPal! :)
Any excellent writer who would love to do more on Mahalo but cannot commit to the four hour GoTeam sessions should click on Cosmopinkice's name and ask a direct question about how they might be able to do more on Mahalo. Make your direct question a good example of your writing skills. Make it at least 75 words long, and for good measure include an educational video. ;) Read up first about how to inlink on Mahalo, and include at least one inlink in what you write to Cosmopinkice, just to show that you know how, too.

M$ooo, wish I had read that before I signed up for a schedule, oh well. I have 7 task more to go.
Nope! not at all! The requirement is ten normal tasks, NOT ten how to tasks.
The confusion is that the normal tasks are now hidden in the "Mahalo how To" link at the top of each Mahalo page. From there, click on the blue button on the right that says "View More Tasks". Then, the tab that says "Open Tasks". Or, just follow this link:
http://www.mahalo.com/tasks?filter=open
Some of the pages I've done are......
http://www.mahalo.com/abeo-coupons
http://www.mahalo.com/gold-coupons
http://www.mahalo.com/house-of-dereon-coupons
http://www.mahalo.com/rock-star-baby-coupons
I look at it like this. Even if I were to complete one Mahalo task an hour, I would only be making M$3 to M$5 for each page. But on the GoTeam, you are making M$10 an hour.....that is significantly more, right? So if you're already building pages, the investment is well worth the training time to get faster!
I definitely recommend this to anyone who has been making pages and is ready for a challenge. It can be hard to find info at times, but the VM's are there to help.
My own GoTeam experience.

M$As of 6/15/2010, the session times we have available are (in Pacific time):
6am - 10am
10am - 2pm
2pm - 6pm
Depending on your time zone, some of these could be evening session times for some people.
If you are interested for when we eventually do have Pacific evening session times, then please sign up here
http://www.mahalo.com/mahalo-goteam
and indicate "interested in future sessions". This will get you on our list. Then, if you wouldn't mind, please send me an e-mail at goteam@mahalo.com and remind me to note next to your name on the list that you want an evening session time. It wouldn't hurt to indicate the exact times you want, either. :)
You'll get there! Here's my tip -
If it's something you're unfamiliar with, open up Google, type in the title, and open the first 3-5 GOOD links. Read over each of them quickly. Put them all aside, and you'll be able to write your page largely from what you've memorized, in your own words. It should be thorough, because it's coming from multiple sources. When you forget a specific (a name, a date, etc) you already have your references open, and you can quickly flip back to check for the details.
Then, your references are already RIGHT THERE and you can just add them where appropriate!
It'll really help when you're working directly with a VM, because they'll be there to give you help when you need it (so you don't waste time) and you'll be motivated to work quickly, without checking your email, making a snack, etc.
I'm the sort of person that can't work on one thing continuously (like now, I'm supposed to be doing hwk, instead I'm over here commenting on your answer), but when I'm working in GoTeam I've always got my eye on the clock and I don't tend to stray as much.
Good luck!
thank you everybody for all of the great advice!
Hmm, good points here. I guess it's important to remember that Go Team pages are pages that are desperately needed quickly, and so might be likely to experience adsense income reasonably quickly if looked after.
Remember, too, that you can become the page manager of any unmanaged page that you update or create on the GoTeam. GoTeamers create the bare minimum of an acceptable page in an hour. All page managers are expected to update their pages at least every 30 days, and preferably more often. During updates you can add recent news, more in-depth examples, and all the other goodies that make an acceptable page into an excellent page.
Page managers get to keep 40-50% of the Google Adsense revenue that their pages generate. On the pages that I have created on the GoTeam which I have decided to keep managing, this is more than M$3 per month. On a few it is more than M$10 per month. That is another motivation to keep the pages updated and to do a good job on them.
In response to derosajohanna's comment.
I have been a member of Mahalo for a few months now, and even though I have another job (I'm a floor manager in a casino, pretty boring) I try to pick up one or two GoTeam shifts as much as I can. Sure, it pays substantially less than my wage but that's just the beginning. As Cherise said, just because you've made a page it doesn't mean you've stopped making money. The motivation is to keep the page updated and making money. You learn a lot too. Today I worked on a page on Miracle Noodles, something I'd never heard of. It took me a about an hour to create. The template is there so it's just a matter of filling in the blanks. GoTeam members have been working on coupon sites so each page has similar qualities. After a while you'll know what to do. The toughest part is doing research and deciding what to put into the guide note. You'd be surprised how easy it is to put in 300 words.
Here are some tips:
Work in Notepad so that you can have your work open at the same time as your research, side by side.
Have a template that you start with on notepad that has fast facts, related mahalo pages, video with caption, guide note, and a few misc sections. As you do your research, fill in this template, in the order it needs to go in. Put in your reference tags as you go, too.
Once you have covered the topic, go through the whole document. As you go through:
put it in your own words
integrate it into paragraphs
punctuate
and add inlinks
Hmm, I think this might be why I haven't joined, too.... Very different from the way I would usually write. The page-in-an-hour writing seems possibly kind of a bit more of a... regurgitation kinda style. :) Gotta experiment to see if I can write a good page in an hour this way. :)
Along the lines of @albanian's answer, I guess I'm also still tossing around the idea of whether I'd produce work that I really like in this timeframe, or not....
Hmm, not sure if this has been done already somewhere, but how's this idea for a motivator for people like us: Maybe some links to Mahalo pages that were created in an hour as part of the Go Team? Maybe if we see what can really be produced in an hour once somebody has the hang of it, we can figure out if we're capable of that and if what is involved is worth $7.50 to us... and see if we'd want to put our name on something similar...?
Actually, there's another point..... something that would be really valuable to some Mahalo writers would be a by-line on our work. Lots of people are wanting to build a bit of a portfolio of work. It could be a very attractive thing to many writers if they find that the work they produce could have their name on it in a byline.
And just a little thing that Mahalo should know, in case they do not... In Australia just about any adult can make approximately $18AUS (about $15 U.S.) an hour delivering pizza, or making burgers, or similar. We would also get superannuation money (retirement fund type thing) put into our superannuation account.
And I refuse to even THINK about what I could make as an exotic dancer, were I that kind of gal. :D
