Why has this video "I Am Autism" just posted two days ago, generated so many comments? I don't quite understand?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDdcDlQVYtM

Produced by Alfonso Cuaron and Billy Mann for Autism Speaks:
http://www.autismspeaks.org/
an autism science and advocacy organization.

My first comment from my FaceBook page:

"My guess is that viewers who are upset done realize the narrator is the disease. It is not meant to scare people that autistic people are scary, rather it is the disease speaking to us as itself. This is the first time I can think of that a creative PSA used the disease as the first person. I think Autism is up to 1 in 151 born today."

and my response:
"It never occurred to me that people are scared of autistic people. I wonder if people are scared of me? I'm usually scared of them!"

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I don't know what comments were made so I will just give you mine. I watched the video and at first I felt threatened then angry for feeling that way. then when the parents and families spoke I cried. These families have a fire that will not die and no longer as in times past are special kids put out of the way. They are loved and fought for and the emotion that this sparked in me makes me want to learn more about autism.

Thanks for answering. There has been a recent flurry of articles on Autism. Just published a couple days ago in the journal Pediatrics that according to telephone survey of parents, autism has been diagnosed in 1 in 91 children between the ages 3 and 17. For boys, it is 1 in 58. This a dramatic increase for a disorder that was once considered very rare.
