Why does Wikipedia show up when I search for only .gov resources?
I've always narrowed by searches down when looking for Government published information by using site:*.gov followed by the keyword. Today when looking up resources for definitions and terms using this method, Wikipedia shows up on every search. The URL is not a .gov so why do they show?
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Look,What is Wikipedia? Well, it is the complete 99% free-encyclopedia, means that it covers most of the internet, and which ultimately implies better and excellent seo(Search Engine Optimization)as well as a top page rank and other analytics.
So, what does the Search engine do? It lists out the top sites(site with good seo, page rank ) according to the with keyword provided.
So when you search for the thing with *.gov, the wikipedia comes up, even if you don't want it, however, you can't blame it though because "a machine maynot always understand a human need".
If you liked it , then please choose as best, thanks...

If I understand search parameters correctly, if I do an *.gov search, it should only show me .gov sites. If I do a "site:mahalo.com" search followed by a keyword, I only get Mahalo pages which have the named keyword as the results. I understand Wikipedia is supposedly quite popular, though I find it full of errors in many cases. But there is nothing that makes Wikipedia a .gov site so why do they show in the results?
can you provide me what do you actually search in gov, i want the keywords to help you out.
Thanks for your help. I am awarding best answer as apparently my difficulty was a system glitch. I have tried it today using the terms I previously used and it no longer shows wikipedia under a .gov search. The day I asked this question I tried it on three different browsers with an array of terms and everyone of them included Wikipedia - strange but not happening today.
