Volcanoes erupt because when the rocks inside the Earth become hot enough they start to melt. This molten rock, which is also known as magma, is less dense than the rock that surrounds it. Then we have that the relatively low density of the melted rock causes it to rise to the surface of the planet. All of what I mentioned before takes place in the different eruptions that we can see in the most active volcano on the planet, Kīlauea, located in the state of Hawai`i. The volcanic eruption ceases when the magma chamber is fully or partially emptied and the cycle of filling up the chamber begins all over again.
