Why does the "minor" channel on my digital tuner DVR keep changing?

I have a Digital Video Recorder (DVD with VHS; digital tuner with no cable box connected directly via coax cable). The TV stations viewed through the DVR come in just fine. However, I've noticed that the "minor" stations (i.e., the number to the right of the dash on most systems; e.g., channel "10" on an analog-based system becomes "10-1" on an digital-based system) sometimes change, such that, one moment, it's "10-1", but if I change channels or turn the unit off, then on, again, or set a timer recording, it might change to "10-2". I can't find anything about this in the user manual. I have tried rescanning the channels, but that hasn't helped. I'm not sure if it's an issue with the input signal or the device, but I have no such problem with my analog-based DVRs or the cable-box connection on the TV (for the sake of avoiding potential libel suits, I'm not going to mention the manufacturers of any of the devices). I'm wondering whether this is a common problem and why, and, if so, what's the solution, if any?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.
