It doesn't happen with one jet stream. The F-35C that is equipped with VTOL capabilities is supported on takeoff by twin Rolls Royce fan engines on each wing as well as a top stabilizing fan engine someone along the body of aircraft.

Is the vertical take a feat of impressive computer control and adjustment?
Will you show a diagram, why the plane does not flip over? Most rockets run the risk of flipping over if the head moves off trajectory.
What is VTOL?
You can see how tricky vertical takeoff is from this video. The operator is making numerous hand eye adjustment during liftoff. If the adjustment deviates to far off center the rocket will fly into the ground.

Remember its not the fall that kills you, but the sudden stop. How does the F35 control descent?
