Why does the Dude hate the Eagles? Personally not a fan of them, just curious.

The Dude is clearly well-educated in country rock. One of his most mourned possessions stolen from him in a car theft was a Creedence Clearwater Revival tape. The fact that the Coen Brothers employ a burly Western narrator called The Stranger to add some real rugged American individualism to the character of the Dude also suggests this.
Something tells me that if you asked him to name his top ten favorite bands, a few of them would obviously be Woodstock bands, but then you'd hear the Byrds, and then he'd start talking to you about Gram Parsons.
The Eagles are to Gram Parsons what, for instance, Good Charlotte is to Rancid. They capitalized on a cool musical movement, made it really popular with overproduced, professionally penned anthems, and ultimately macerated it into oblivion, extruding whatever profit they could easily get and then pursuing atrocious solo careers. Don Henley, I'm looking at you, here.
