Why does static electricity make our hair stand on end?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Static electricity is the imbalance of positive and negative charges. This usually occurs during winter when the air is dry unlike in summer where there is air is very humid.
Static electricity can make ends of hair stand out. For example, when you are combing your hair the comb rub against your hair. There is a static charge that builds up and each of the hair has the same positive charge. Things with the same charge tends to repel each other. So, the hair will try to get away from each other as possible, making your hair stand out making static electricity causing you a bad hair day.
