Why does my dog howl when I yell?

Whenever I go "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" when my dog is near, he starts howling and barking! Then my other dog starts too. They don't stop until you stop yelling and sooth them. Why do they do this? (My dog is a mutt; A chihuahua, bichon frise, and poodle mix. the other dog is a brussels griffin.

The Top 5 Reasons Your Dog Howls When You Yell

1) They want to join in on the fun

2) They assume you are lost and are trying to help you find your way home

3) To remind you that they exist

4) To help you ward off other dogs and establish your territory

5) Instinct - getting in touch with their inner-wolf

My chihuahua/corgi mix loves to "sing". He starts whenever I say "roo roo". He seems to really enjoy it, but it can get out of hand and high pitched. They think of you as their pack leader and in the canine world if the leader howls, the pack follows. They seem to really enjoy it, so if nobody is sleeping howl away!

Sometimes they look like they enjoy it and sometimes they don't. I guess they just see you as a leader (Because you are,) and do what you do. Thanks.

There could be many reasons why this happens. My guess is that when it first happened, you made being vocal interesting to your dog, so your dog emulated what you were doing. Then your other dog did the same. Also, soothing them, is probably reinforcing. They likely enjoy this, so now, they have figured out a way to get soothing attention. Whenever you yell, they yell, then they get soothed.

That's an interesting reason why they may howl. By the look of them I don't think they do this to get attention though. My brother said that maybe its a way to relieve stress.
