Why does my cat bite me when I sing?

I've known for some time that when I have that rare balling cry, that my cat will come up to me... put her paws around my leg and bite me. This often makes me go immediately from crying to laughing. It's obvious that doesn't like the sound.

But I've been rehearsing a song recently and she'll charge me in the middle of the song and go for my leg or my arm. Is her hearing delicate enough that my singing is really hurting her? Or is she just a critic and thinks I suck?

PS. Does it matter that she's is a basement cat... or that the song is Life On Mars by Bowie?

That's quite interesting in a most bizarre sort of way. Are you a particularly bad singer? You may be on to something in questioning your choice of Bowie. Try some Beatles. Everyone likes the Beatles.

I believe the cat thinks you are in distress and or crying. if you think about it in the "cat world" singing would be perceived as wailing or distress and not so much that you are a bad singer lol. I have a feline friend with me now for ten years and I am a singer and I sometimes like rehearsing at home & he does his own thing to let me know he is there, also as if asking me if i am O.K, he meows as if he is sympathizing with me and sometimes claws me so i stop. jajaj but aside from that Yes their ears are absolutely sensitive and it could be something in the pitch. So bottom line, you need to soundproof a room at home and NO Cats allowed in it. It seems felines unfortunately are not music enthusiast as we are guess if hey need music they just purr lol I hope that helps. God Bless.

Cats are very sensitive creatures. She might experience a particular discomfort when hearing certain sounds.Maybe you should ask a vet specialised in animals' behaviour to see what could trigger such a reaction.
