Why does Mary-Jane Watson call Peter Parker, "Tiger"?

These are characters from Marvel comics series, Spider-man

It's an old fashioned sort of slang. Tiger originally was used as a secondary meaning for a man with a tiger's attributes, such as fierce. More recent slang is:
"Slang Dictionary
tiger
n.
a strong and virile man. : The guy's a tiger. Watch out for him.

Dictionary of American Slang and Colloquial Expressions by Richard A. Spears.Fourth Edition.
Copyright 2007. Published by McGraw Hill. "

However, the word tiger was commonly used in a much milder way, just as the comic character uses it, for a guy who is at all eager or aggressive, or isn't (a sort of humor).

He was kind of a geek, introspective skinny guy.... until she saw him dealing with a bully named Flash outside the school's cafeteria. That was the first time Peter Parker let his recently acquired arachnid abilities shown in front of people. Mary Jane watched Parker's display on amazement and started to call him "Tiger" thereafter.

Thank you for you answer, however, I do understand the meaning of Tiger. I was wondering if there way a particular reason she chose this term of endearment.

Early issues of Amazing Spider-Man featured a running joke about Peter dodging his Aunt May's attempts to set him up with "that nice Watson girl next door", whom Peter had not yet met and assumed would not be his type, since his aunt liked her. (In the Parallel Lives graphic novel an identical scenario is shown between Mary Jane and her Aunt Anna.) Mary Jane made her first actual appearance in Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1) #25 (June 1965); however, in that issue, her face was obscured. It is not until Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1) #42 (November 1966) that her face is actually seen. In that issue, on the last page, Peter finally meets her, and he is stunned by her beauty even as she speaks the now-famous line: "Face it, Tiger... you just hit the jackpot!"

I did see this wiki entry, but it also did not state why she chose 'Tiger'
I was wondering if there was some background story to explain the choice of this pet name.

Tiger is a nickname that I'm sure everyone has heard at some point or another. I put this in directly from Wikipedia because it shows the origin of the term. She calls him Tiger more than once throughout the storyline. This excerpt illustrates how the recurring term started as it pertains to Peter and Mary Jane.

As far as why she chose that name in particular... it's anyone's guess. It's a common term and something of a term of endearment that was chosen when the story was written.

Not only is this cut and paste from Wikipedia, contravening Mahalo guidelines, it doesn't even answer the question. Which was, why tiger?

Read the guidelines for quoting or using other material in Mahalo answers. Also, if you don't know an answer and don't think it can be researched, the correct thing is to skip it.
