Why does Mahalo freeze? My page freezes constantly and My internet shuts down. It is only this site. Why?

Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I have noticed something similar when I am on my work computer. From what I can tell it is due to the proxy that my work requires all internet access to flow through.

I'm having similar problems when I access my profile page from my work computer. At home I work on a Mac, and have no issues. At work, I'm using a Windows XP machine using Internet Explorer as a browser. It's "always" happened (keeping in mind I've only been active on MA since early January).
If I let the site sit with offending page for an hour or so - literally - it will sometimes function.

There is some event on the My profile that is locking the page. It could be an advertisement widget that is preventing the page from completely loading. It is a hard lock because the browser, itself will not terminate. I have use task manager to terminate the session. It then brings down all my open browsers. No error message display. Sometimes the event times out and I get access again to the page. The locking occurs on all computers that I've used.

I also have significant slow downs using IE 7.0 on several Windows machines. It seems that pages with a lot of pictures like the Mahalo home page and my profile page tend to freeze up more often. Even when control returns to me, the vertical scroll bar is sticky/sluggish.

Now when I use Google Chrome, I don't have those problems. So I usually use Chrome.

cee-jay,
I'll look into it.
a) what browser / version are you using?
b) is it Answers that freezes for you? or the main Mahalo site?
c) did this just start happening? or has it always happened?

It started about week 3 of Mahalo operation and has been getting worse ever since.

The worse offender is the "My Profile" page It always takes one to one and one half minutes to load and someties as long as two to three. When it happens it completely freezes IE but not windows. Other applications respond normally.

It occasionally happens when clicking to open a question but for a much shorter time- 15 to 30 seconds.

It happens with Windows XP-Pro, Windows Vista Ultimate, and Windows 7 beta.

It happens with IE and FireFox.

It is related to page size. The larger the page the longer the wait.

I use only Mahalo Answers so I don't know about the rest of the site.

I use Time Warner Road Runner. Average download speed tests 5.5 mbps.

PS:

11:35PM CST Attempted to load my profile page.
Killed it after nine minutes.
the restof the
During the time it was frozen, the rest of the machine works normally. Including open up a new instance of IE and Mahalo answers and reading questions - and entering this comment.

I have also noticed that Mahola pages are very slow to load. My CPU usage rises to 100% for a few seconds with each new page. (something that does not occur when I visit other websites)
