Why does eating breakfast make me tired and sleepy?

Every morning, I have the same routine. I wake up, drink some green tea, and exercise for about 30-45 minutes, usually spinning or cardio dance. Then I take a shower and get ready, waiting an hour after working out to eat breakfast. However, after eating breakfast, no matter what I eat, I am so sleepy afterwards, and I feel like I want to go back to bed. (The exercise energizes me, but the breakfast drains me.). Caffeine doesn't seem to help either. I have tried changing up what I eat for breakfast, and this seems to happen no matter what I eat. Sometimes I have a high fiber cereal or granola, a fruit and yogurt, or scrambled egg whites, but nothing really seems to help. Any ideas?

Maybe you are eating too many simple sugar carbs like cereals, bread or rice. Usually, these give a fast "high" with a resulting "low" that makes you feel sleepy. Another reason might be you are eating too much. When this happens, the energy needed to be active gets diverted in the digestive process, making one feel tired or sleepy because the stomach is hoarding all the energy needed to digest all the bacon and eggs you've eaten.

The best thing to do is to eat a light, substantial breakfast, such as a piece of fruit and some skim milk to prevent the simple sugar from being metabolized too fast. If this does not work, go to a doctor and have your thyroids and adrenals checked.

Hope this helps.
