Why do you never see baby pigeons?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

By the time baby pigeons leave the nest, they have lost their down and have the same coloring as adults, but are only a little bit smaller. I'm sure you have seen plenty of baby pigeons... you just didn't notice them.

I always love 'The Straight Dope' for questions like these

Here's a video on how to tell if a 'squeaker' (baby pigeon) is ready to leave the nest.
Enjoy!

Perhaps YOU do not see baby pigeons. That may be because you do not raise pigeons, and neither have you put a webcam near a pigeon nest. Come to think of it, have you seen any baby vultures lately, or baby woodpeckers?

As you may know, baby birds are brought to the parents by the Stork. Then the parents feed them and keep them warm.

In the case of pigeons, they keep at it until the baby looks the same as they do. When the young pigeon flies off to see and be seen by passers by, it looks just like an adult pigeon. So no one is the wiser.

But since you are curious, here is what a baby pigeon looks like before it leaves the nest.
