M$Firstly out of curiosity but also because I would like to see what answers are delivered by other users, often they are different than what I had come up with and this helps me further my knowledge in that area. Many of my interests are represented in the pages I manage so this is a double bonus as I will most of the time ask these questions *from* my pages to further that cause as well. I asked a question this morning from my Shih Tzu page regarding dogs and going outside in the rain. This is a mild form of updating our pages.
I also ask questions I know nothing about in pure curiosity to add information to my brain such as some recent questions on Wyndham Lewis and Ezra Pound. I do not manage pages in these areas but I might in the future.
I cannot recall a recent question I have asked or answered in order to start a discussion as my opinions are often in the minority and my responses and comments often get unhelpful votes or lead to arguments and that is counter productive to me. Sometimes this is just unavoidable and I try to respectfully bow out of the conversation.

M$The reason why I ask questions are the following:
When I do not know about something - This is very much straight forward. If I am interested in gaining knowledge in just about anything, I would ask it here. It is interesting because regardless of what you ask, you will often get meaningful responses and that is good. I remember once answering to a question about someone wanting to know where he could find a manual of a DVD that I never heard before. Believe it or not, I found that manual and obviously made someone happy that day:)
When I need other people's opinion - As an example, I recently asked a question about Website design what annoys you more. I asked this question to find out what other people thought about the subject. Consider this as a mini-survey, or a mini-poll or simply, to have an understanding of what's going on in other people's mind. It is very refreshing because, while you will find many different point of view's, there are certain things that normally are common to people. The later, is what I am looking for.
