Why do we still have NASCAR when we're running out of fossil fuels and the world is about to explode?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Although the world has some limit of fossil fuel resources, we are not close to "running out"...
conventional and non-conventional liquid resources may ultimately total between 13 trillion and 16 trillion barrels and only a small fraction (1.1 trillion) has been extracted to date.
...and automobile racing does not have the environmental influence to make the world "explode."
The reality is that a NASCAR race weekend consumes an insignificant volume of fossil fuel (~6,000 gallons) compared to the fuel that will be consumed by passenger cars alone during Monday's commute across the cities in North America (~500,000,000 gallons).
It is fair to question whether automobile racing is a sustainable sport in the long run, but it certainly is not an activity, in and of itself, that will bring about the apocalypse.
Other relevant excerpts from the sources...
NASCAR officials estimate their sport consumes about 6,000 gallons of specially refined racing fuel during a typical race weekend, including practice sessions, qualifying and the race.
Similar to other professional leagues and sanctioning bodies, NASCAR has been the target of criticism on various topics from various sources. A general area of criticism, not only of NASCAR but other motorsports as well, includes questions about fuel consumption, emissions and pollution, and the use of lead additives in the gasoline. While other series, such as the FIA Formula 1 series have addressed these criticisms by instituting "green" mandates, NASCAR has not.
