Why do we feel better at the beach?

Tip for best answer: M$0.12
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

It seems likely that this is because it was our native habitat when man evolved his most distinctive features.

This theory of man's littoral or aquatic origin was put forward in Desmond Morris's "The Naked Ape" and other works on anthropology; but, it is a minority view. Most scientists are still more convinced by a savanah origin. But I find the beach and shore theory more convincing and it is certainly backed up by the way humans do indeed enjoy the beach.

Here is an online summary of the Aquatic Ape theory:

I believe it is because of a couple of reasons.

The sand is normally soft, so we can go barefoot. There are not a lot of places we can do that. In that we are less restricted. Same goes for clothing. Being completely clothed is usually optional.

The tides come and go. It reminds us of the sound we heard when we are still in the uterus. Shhhh...

It is a place to relax, and bathe in the sun, which in itself as already stated gives us Vitamin D.

It is the edge of two realms, earth and water. We could be in either or both at the same time.

We feel better a the beach because this is the closest most of us get to true nature. If you look at zodiac signs the one thing that hold true is how we are linked to our sign and the emotions attached to them. Example: If your sign is cancer, like the ocean your temperment bounces between very happy and very sad the highs and lows of the tide. Being at the beach brings us closer to nature to god to our very being. We are home....at peace with the earth and everything in and on it.

We often feel better at the beach one, because it is normally a place we go to find relaxation and enjoyment, and two, the sun provides a good amount of Vitamin D, which helps your body absorb and produce calcium, naturally making your body feel better.
