This theory of man's littoral or aquatic origin was put forward in Desmond Morris's "The Naked Ape" and other works on anthropology; but, it is a minority view. Most scientists are still more convinced by a savanah origin. But I find the beach and shore theory more convincing and it is certainly backed up by the way humans do indeed enjoy the beach.
