why do we celebrate Saint Patrick's Day?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

St. Patrick's Day is a celebration of the life of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Born Maewyn Succat circa AD 387, he was a Welshman who was captured by pirates when he was sixteen and sold into slavery in Ireland. The experience moved him so much, he eventually went back to Ireland to spread Christianity.

We celebrate it because we need some kind of excuse to party and get drunk. Noone knows who in the heck St. Patrick was or what he represents... Hell, not even the Irish celebrate St. Patrick's day...

Because green is underrepresented, and we like to drink. Plus, how often do you get to drink green beer? I mean, on purpose?
