Why do so many anonymous questions take the form of "About _______ "? Do these really count as questions? What should be done about them?

Firstly, this is not a whine about anonymous questions and their worth... but it does seem that a significant amount of anonymous questions just follow the pattern "about XYZ".

Does the person asking these questions
a) not realise what the question box is?
b) are the unable to ask a 'real' question?
c) are they wanting to use a question like a chat-room to discuss their topic
d) doing something else that I haven't grasped????

And what should mahalo do about them?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I have been noticing this as well and have come to the conclusion that the page they were on must be incomplete as they were unable to find what they needed at the page we have on that particular subject.

** I think the "about _whatever subject_" prompt should be removed to discourage the obvious "click and go mentality" that has been going on.

If this prompt were removed then the curious but unsatisfied Mahalo page surfer would be forced to actually ask a question instead of just clicking the "about" prompted ask a question button.

How are we to answer such a question? Seemingly we could direct them right back to the page they asked the question from. Or we could go retrieve information from outside Mahalo but that leads me back to my original conclusion.....

..Our pages are incomplete because complete pages would not need to have hugely vague questions asked from them. The information would be on the page in the first place.

I hadn't thought of that as an explanation... but how would it explain the one below?

I asked that anonymous question as a test.

I agree that there have been a lot of questions like that and something needs to be done about them. Mahalo has now given some users a Vanish button feature so they can delete questions that are incomplete. It may help a little, but I think we need to stop it at the source so they types of questions do not even show up in the 1st place. I'm sure the development team is working on a solution for it.
