M$The Republicans may not appreciate his voting record, his history in politics, or the fact that the unemployment rate in California is currently 12 per cent with an increase in exodus from the state. They do not believe that his past in politics gives any credence to his ability to ensure the future of the state.
Republicans, and most rational people, would be offended by Jerry Brown allowing one of his staff to call his competition a "whore". Most would not believe that a man whose campaign was funded by unions would do anything against those who got him into office. Most would rather hear a clean campaign than a bunch of smears.
People who listen to insults and berating campaign ads, on either Republican, or Democrat, are not thinking. Why do they think that those things are coming out? Not because they are true, but because campaign specialists KNOW that the majority of voters will not check the resources, leaving the person being smeared to defend themselves, which just looks weak.
That is one reason that many Republican candidates have left their campaigns to the issues. No one who is educated, or listening to all sides of the debates would just hear smears, but Jerry Brown did a great deal of that in his campaign. Republicans who disliked his campaign were having issues with the rhetoric against the opponent and very little discussion about what he would do if elected. He only won because California is a very dominant democrat state that is pretty sick of Arnold S. who is Republican.
