Why do people mock Box Wine?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Mostly because of the image of the packaging. Box wine = total crap.

This is untrue even Franzia the world most popular wine makes a great Sangria to keep in the 'fridge. Even if you say it is just for company as an excuse for having it when asked, once you try it you will most likely agree.

There many others as well check out this article from Forbes Magazine.

And this from WineReviewOnline. Boxed wine has improved considerably people just need to give it a chance.

Because drinking wine is as much about experience and image as the taste to many people. Box wine may taste as good as wine from a bottle, but it's not the same experience, just like the same food can taste better in a nice restaurant with a pleasing atmosphere than when you just ask for it to go. It's also not as elegant to serve as a bottle of wine. That being said, box wine is stored in airtight containers and the wine will last for a long time, so there should not be a big difference in quality or taste.

To me, none of that matters. I don't care what the wine comes in, if it tastes good, who cares? I can drink it out of a small juice glass, plastic cup, doesn't matter. But I'm also the kind of person that doesn't much care what the atmosphere of a restaurant is, as long as it's clean and the food tastes good, i'll go there. I wont pay extra for nice atmosphere or nice packaging, just a waste of money for me.

You judge a book by it's cover and wine by it's bottle. The box is the zine of the wine world.

I equate it to drinking beer out of a can. I just can't do it. Have to have both out of the bottle. It also sounds country and backwoods which I can say because I grew up in a very very small town so I saw this alot.
