1. They work full time, and thier workplace isn't "supportive" to pumping.
2. They are physically unable (surgeries, unable to produce milk est)
3. Maybe the baby spent time in the icu and they were unable to keep thier milk supply producing.
4. The baby could be physically unable to breastfeed (cleft palate and other problems)
5. They simply choose that breat feeding is not for them.

Choosing to formula feed or breast feed is the parents choice and as long as the baby is healthy and happy is really all the matters. Most mothers make the choice that is best for their families and their circumstances. There is always something to be concerned about with any consumer product but if we let fear run our lives we would not truely live. And I don't recall any melamine scares involving baby formula's.

Here is just one of the many articles that state that the FDA has admitted that there is melamine in a popular US baby formula and they won't release the name of the company.
All workplaces in the US are legally required to provide pumping space/breaks.
Also, I understand medical necessity, such as nicu, and surgeries (although, inability to produce milk is much less common than most people think.)
I also understand adoption. Obviously.
It is the moms in reason five that I wonder about.
The concern wtih consumer products is what I mean, you can make it yourself and know what is in it. Why would you want a product made with profit in mind and not your babies health?
I personally believe that formula should require a prescription. And that being said, I think health insurance should cover it since I think it should only be used in an emergency situation.
