Why do people always complain about their jobs?

It seems like no matter what, even if considered their "dream job", people will always find something to complain about.

In truth, we "complain" about everything. People just need to vent. Job is usually one of the main sources of stress in most people's life so it is more widely talked about. Job is also less personal topic than your relationship or your family so that it's safer to talk with acquaintance or even strangers. People also able to relate better to job problems and stress, and not so much about more personal issues because to relate with someone's personal issues, you have to be close to the person. So, we talk and complain about our job because it's a "safer" ground.

I also think that many people choose the wrong job for themselves, either because they have no choice or they don't know the best job for them. This of course leads to unhappiness at the work place.

When people are unemployed, they tend to be unhappy with their situations and wish for a job to fulfill their lives and let them earn money. However, once they do find employment, the dream-like state of having found a meaningful opportunity for success can quickly change as reality of the newly acquired responsibilities sets in and they may panic or come to miss their former easier lifestyle. Of course, every job comes with its very own stressors, and so as a person becomes exhausted, he/she is much more likely to become irritable over little things at work that they perceive as an unnecessary complication of their workday. Fact is, most people do find something negative to say about their jobs at least once a week, even if their jobs are in fact their dream jobs. There are a variety of reasons for this, of course, but many studies have found that the people most likely to complain about or be unhappy with their current jobs are those who work for an employer and are not in a position of leadership. People who are self-employed and their own boss tend to express much less dissent and much higher levels of job satisfaction.

Sometimes there is just nothing else to talk about. And sometimes that's all it is.

After complaining I normally say, I still have a job, no raise, but no pay cut either.

While all jobs come with stress, I think a big part of the issue is that people have jobs they hate. It's not an easily solvable problem, but something can often be done about it on an individual level. I've found that a lot of the unhappiness is also caused by procedural things that aren't as difficult to improve as people think. For example, a boss that micromanages to the extreme can cause all sorts of issues. Replacing that boss with someone more reasonable can make the entire office a happier place to work.

Well since nothing in life is perfect, it is just human nature to see things that we are not thrilled with. Even in a dream job things can be less than perfect and we like to speak about it. It does give us something to talk about.

I think sometimes people just can't be satisfied no matter what they do. People are unhappy when they don't have a job. Then they get a job, they are fabulously happy, until they find out it isn't perfect either. Nothing is exactly the way you want it to be. No matter how much you wish for it. Plus there is the fact you have to find something to talk about with your friends or relatives. Since a job takes up a big portion of everyone's life, they talk about their job and complain. Human nature. :-)
