Why is pleaded said instead of pled, while it's bled instead of bleeded?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

They are actually both gramatically correct. This blog actually has an explaination with citations:
http://www.grammarphobia.com/blog/2008/03/plea-agreement.html

Merriam-Webster online lists the inflected forms of plead as both of these
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/plead
Inflected Form(s):
plead·ed ... \ˈplē-dəd\ or pled also plead ... \ˈpled\ ; plead·ing

In American English, both "pleaded" and "pled" are acceptable usages of the past tense of "plead." However, the reason that you hear "pled" less often is because the word dates back to the 16th century and is viewed as archaic by some. It's basically obsolete in British English. In U.S. legal jargon, "pled" is used quite often. In formal writing, it's generally best to stick with "pleaded," but in casual conversation, "pled" is fine.

Plead is an irregular verb, and it just sounds better phonetically than pled, and is easier to spell, as you do not need to drop a vowel. You can use the word pled. According to the Answers.com dictionary, pled is used. The word bled sounds better, and you do not need to add any letters. It's easier to drop a letter than add a letter in the English language.

plead
v., plead·ed or pled (plĕd), plead·ing, pleads.

bleed
v., bled (blĕd), bleed·ing, bleeds.
