Why do I have to restart my computer to use my printer?

I have a HP all in one printer. Well, when I need to print something out, if I have used it previously, since the last restart... I have to restart it again for it to work.

For example:
I restart my computer and wait 4 hours, then print some stuff out, it usually works.
After doing this, I wait say another 4 hours and try to print something else out, It won't work. I get a little bubble saying "this document failed to print". So I restart the computer, it prints out.

Someone told me to reinstall the software for the printer. I have and it still does it.

What is wrong?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

Well, first I'm sure you know how to do research on the Internet for this problem. You probably didn't find anything useful. If the problem annoys you, then it could be stressing you out a little bit. It's not worth having that so I recommend buy a new one. This time you will keep the instruction manual.

Maybe there's a problem with the printer driver.

I know you have a son to feed. If you have money problem, then I guess something needs to be sacrifice. I don't mean to buy a new one no matter what. If you're going to keep this current one, you will have to sacrifice your peace of mind.

maybe your printer falls asleep, try to turn your printer off and then on. If nothing helps I would suggest to read manual book maybe there is some answer or try to contact Hp customer service I am sure they would help.

I tried that before... it's like after so long after my computer starts up and it has been used, it no longer detects the printer. It's strange and annoying. I don't have the manual any more.

How old is your printer, and what operating system are you using.

Try to print two things out from your computer one right after another. If that does not work, then it is likely a driver issue. If it only does it when there is a long period of time between documents, it is probably something really weird and you may never figure it out.

You may want to try completely removing the driver, downloading the latest driver from HP's website, and installing that.

Good luck.

I do not know how long HP keeps drivers available for download, but I know that it is a very long time. I can still get drivers for my 10 year old computer from HP. Their support for printers and cameras is similar. If the printer is too old to find a driver for it, it is probably time to replace it (old printers usually cost more to refill with ink anyway.)

As far as your USB hub goes, USB hubs usually use generic drivers, and if Vista didn't install one automatically, it probably doesn't support Vista.

OMG, I think her place is haunted!!! AAAHHHHHHH!!!!

ok now i'm serious. @winmaster do you know long HP keep their driver available to be dowloaded for the public? i am too lazy to go to their website and find out. i'm just curious. i had a similar experience. i did tried to find the latest driver at belkin for a USB hub for my Vista OS, and i trouble finding it. it was also hard for me to understand all the terms involved.
