Possible causes of persistent cough in children are asthma, bronchiectasis, and even cystic fibrosis. Some of these conditions mentioned are due to viral infections which cause recurrent and persistent cough.
Persistent cough could be caused by any of the following:

*Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
