Why do cats "bark"?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Cats make a lot of interesting sounds. I've sent you a link with a list of some of them. Soon you might be fluent in Cat.
(Right now, one of mine is sitting beside the computer glaring at me and meowing. This one is easy to interpret - he wants a treat. NOW.)

If this is what your cat sounds like, then @jamied is correct, it's just "chatter" cats make when they see something they want to hunt that's out of their reach.

I've had him 5 weeks (he's little over a year old) and he's a very vocal feline. Didn't know there were so many different types that cats can/may do! He doesn't really meow though, it's more of a ra-ow. He's also an attention whore. Constantly asking for attention by pouncing feet, walking around your feet and of course meowing. He has a very different personality than all cats I've known (it's dog-like).
