Why did Thai Airways leave South Africa?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

According to their website (see the first and second REFERENCEs, below), Thai Airways provided 3 weekly flights to Johannesburg, South Africa. However, that destination is not given/selectable on their website, if it ever was, and no reason is given on their site or via web searches.
As such, I can only speculate on the reasons, as follows:
1) A recent incident concerning a potential outbreak of meningitis from South Africa *may* have triggered a temporary (?) halt/quarantine of flights to that country (see the third and fourth REFERENCEs, below).
2) Insufficient passengers to warrant continued service between the nations.
3) As a "Star Alliance" member, they work with airlines who service South Africa, so such bookings would be made through those other airlines (e.g., South African Airways; see the fifth REFERENCE, below). This is the most likely reason, in combination with 2), above.
