Why did John Mayer quit Twitter with over a million followers?
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

A guess: He likely just wanted some space. Happens to stars who rise to fame quickly--they are overwhelmed by the over-exposure, the rumors, the chit-chat. Politicians go through the same thing.. Some take it better than others. Case in point: I weeded through hundreds of accounts on twitter named some variation of John Mayer until I found that one.
I might say this one's not legit, but looking at the date it's certainly possible that it's the real deal. (Did I just earn the Papareazzi badge?). it's only got one tweet, and it's only following Columbia Records and Interscope records, with about 5100 and 141,000 followers respectively.

In fact, if you go to his website, http://www.johnmayer.com/, you'll see the tumblr feed on the right. What was apparently the real-deal Twitter account is completely gone but they haven't pulled the link from his site.

Thank you all so much for making the Battle Studies tour such a huge success and a pleasure. I’m going to miss seeing your faces every night. Thanks for singing along. And for accepting me. You don’t know how good that feels. And thanks for the signs, the clever, funny, awesome signs. And for letting me play both my pop radio hits and a 15 minute long jam while giving it the same level of appreciation. Thanks for buying a ticket when money is tight, for waiting in traffic to both enter and leave the venue, and thank you for telling your dubious friends to come with you and see what this “Mayer” guy is all about. Thank you for being fans and thank you for giving me the awesome life I have.
Time to (try to) disappear for a while. Love you guys. A lot.
John"
