Why did it take so long to implement the badges idea?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hello @nushka, good to 'see' you. I'm not sure how long the idea had been circulating (among members and/or staff) before it was fully developed and then implemented. But, if you are aware of the timeline perhaps you can comment on that. However, I do recall the concept of badges introduced, I think, sometime in 2010 and the rollout being a big hit.
I'd suggest that the developers have limited resources and many priorities, but I'm not a Mahalo employee, so this is only my best estimation at why "it took so long". Often users have priorities that may not necessarily match up with those who make the business (financial) decisions on the development side. This is the case in almost any business, even though the goal is to have these two groups' priorities meet.
The most important thing is that the badges idea WAS implemented!
Hope all is well with you, happy nano-science : )
