Kentucky Wildcats football coach, Hal Mumme, resigned in 2001 while he was under investigation by the NCAA for recruiting violations. Mumme continued his careers, coaching at New Mexico State University but he was fired as head coach in December 2008.
On February 2, 2009, Mumme confirmed to the Herald-Leader that he has prostate cancer. According to KDBC 4 Sports, "from sources close to both NMSU and the University of Kentucky, that Coach Mumme has brain, prostate, and liver cancer."
