Haiti did not make a deal with the devil.

Haiti is generally a Christian country. However, back in 1790 they suceeded in a remarkable overthrow of the French in their revolution. They were at the time a very wealthy country and one or two commanders believed in Vodou. To guarantee their efforts, one comander allegedly made a contract with the Petwo, a family of spirits, and sacrificed a pig. There is no historical evidence of this event however, and the support of this rumor is primarily due to the amazing feat they accomplished.

Haiti's lack of wealth since then is because Europe imposed a naval blockade during their revolution, being the only successful slave revolt in history (which led to most other countries abolishing slavery), and a repettitive cycle of plundering and autocracy began.

Haitian Vodou is a belief in a supreme god who does not interfere with life, and multiple lesser spirits who do. Some religions have proclaimed it satanic, and society has attached a belief of the supernatural to it. But upon full observation, it is a religion like all others with no ill will or magic.

Quoting Pat Robertson:

"That island of Hispaniola is one island. It is cut down the middle; on the one side is Haiti on the other is the Dominican Republic."

"Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etc. Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island. They need to have and we need to pray for them a great turning to god and out of this tragedy I'm optimistic something good may come. But right now we are helping the suffering people and the suffering is unimaginable."

"True story. And so the devil said, 'OK, it's a deal.' They kicked the French out. The Haitians revolted and got themselves free. Ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after the other."

MY OPINION: Anything that spews this kind of hate and would rather pursue their own personal agenda than helping a human being when they need help isn't fit to share this planet with us. I will not refer to "Pat Robertson" as a human because he lowers the bar for expectations of humanity.
