In the simplest way of saying it, they ate the apple because eve was tempted by the 'snake' - satin

Eve gave it to adam, and she tempted him to eat it. Therefore they ate the apple.

Simple answers for simple minds. And satin is a type of cloth.

Hi @babychick!

According the the Bible, in the book of Genesis, they ate the fruit (apple) from the tree of knowledge because they were tempted by the serpent (devil).

Actually it was Eve first who was tempted by the serpent to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge. The serpent said that if she would eat that fruit, she will be higher than God and will live forever. Then she ate it and gave the fruit to Adam as well.

That's how they end up eating the fruit which made them being punished and were banished away from his garden.

Genesis
2:9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
3:5 - for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as God, knowing good and evil.'
3:6 - And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat; and she gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat.

People eat because they are hungry.

If we assume that Adam & Eve were actual people then they ate that apple and other apples because they lived by or traveled near where apples were grown. Everything else about that story, true or anecdotal fiction, is all adjective to the base need of hunger.

Adam and/or Eve ate because they were hungry.
They ate apples because they were available.

Not even God can stop a hungry human from eating available food...
...Including and especially the Fruit of the Tree of Knowledge which I'll admit does sound more delicious than a regular apple. I really do eat an apple a day, Pink Lady's and Honey Crisps are my current favs but I swear to God if I go to the supermarket tomorrow and see a display of "fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil" and their are apples on that display you can bet I'm eating one right then and there.

The story of Adam & Eve is way over the fable line for me to believe it actually happened as it is written. People eat because they are hungry and taking into consideration the methods of transportation available to one who lived at the time of A&E .. they ate the food that was readily available. Apples.

I am a spiritual man but a realistic one too and many of the stories in the bible are fables to me. There are lessons to be learned in there and one does not have to look far to find them. The story of Adam & Eve is a fable.. the lesson? don't eat things with worms? Don't eat what God says not too? Don't listen to the devil? Don't listen to snakes? Whatever it is gets lost be the actuality people place on the story and the absolute feeling that A&E were real people and the GoE was a real place.

There were 2 people but they were not the first 2 and the lived in a great garden or tract of land but it was not a "Garden of Eden" and they ate from an apple tree and the story has grown from that to a lesson for children about the "forbidden fruit" and the absolutely false "original sin" bit.

Humans have always been imperfect humans and have always eaten apples because they were hungry and apples were available.

In my best stretch of mind and spirit I cannot grasp a single drop more of juice from this forbidden fruit of a bible story.

I've always wondered - In what part of evolution could Adam and Eve come from?

I believe it is when the first humans as we know it came into existence. We became aware of the ways of the earth, and started to change it. Some people need a tangible reasoning for this. Therefore they produced the idea of eating the 'apple' from the tree of knowledge.

I'm still not sure I believe everything in the bible (someone really does need to create sarcastic font). One thing I think I believe in is the flood. Different cultures from different parts of the world have a flood story. From Native Americans to Hmong to Jews.
To me, logically, one of three things may have happened.
1. There was a small population that experienced this. This group populated and separated. This story was told over and over again to many generations.
2. It happened all over the world, and each culture keeps their own story.
3. People forget that a story is just that, a story. It may or may not have happened.

I guess my point is, the Bible starts, when people become aware of their surroundings. Evolution does exist, and humans as we know it, starts at the time of "Adam and Eve".

Honeycrisps! Yes!

But they weren't invented yet. In the story the first couple had plenty of other food to eat, but they were tricked by a marketing snake.

@meyerv, sure there were lots of floods. Still are, my home was flooded by Katrina. But there never was and never could be a world wide flood. It is physically impossible. There is not enough water on the planet to flood the entire world, and if there were there would be nowhere for it to go afterward. The way bible fans talk about hypothetical floods in the past as an excuse to believe in the literal truth of the bible is just plain silly because they are entirely different things than a world wide flood.

While hunger is of casual concern and constant consideration by the inhabitants of the garden of Eden, the fruit of the specific tree that was forbidden was a test of obedience, not dietary sequestering.

Like telling someone don't think about pink elephants, the forbidden can become the focus. So being surrounded by constant sources of food, including another tree that prolonged their lives (the Tree of Life as opposed to the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil - complete with A. A. Milne caps at no extra charge) their hunger was not a factor.

It's interesting to ponder other sources that mention the tree, one source suggests that the type of fruit that the tree of life grew each month changed. I wonder if the Apple on the other tree was similarly different each month or if it was a single type as yet undefined (we call it an apple because someone painted a picture of it being one, not because that's what the Bible said).

It's also very interesting that the lie Satan told Eve, "ye shall not surely die" (Gen. 3:4) is still believe by people today in spite of information in the Bible to the contrary. It's the origin of the concept of an immortal soul - and it's based on a lie told by Satan. Interesting...

Either way, don't eat the apple with the little snakes in them (worms). If you can't find something better to eat, let me know. I'll send you some seeds you can grow your own! :)

because we want what we are told we can't have.

interesting thing ... there is no indication in the Bible story about how long Adam and Eve were in the garden before the fall. could have been hundreds or thousands of years.

hello babychick. . Your question is interesting. Before answering that question, let me give you a brief background why Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, the apple.
As we all know they are the first two people that God created to live in the world after HE finished creating it. They have many choices of food in the garden of eden, the Garden of Eden is planted with a lot of delicious fruits and vegetables. God told them that they can eat anything that they want EXCEPT the tree of apple, because it is the tree of Good and evil and if they it that THEY WILL DIE. . Though the earth is perfectly made, Satan is still existing. You're maybe wondering why God still let him exist, if He has all the guts to kill him, He let him live despite of his cruelty because GOD give us the freedom of choice.
So Satan as it was his nature, he tempted Adam to eat the fruit of the tree of good and evil, to let adam see that he was not going to die if he eat it, Satan first eat the fruit. Adam saw that Satan did not die, so he got one piece of apple and eat it. Eve saw what happened told adam why did he disobeyed God, Adam explained to eve what Satan told him and because of Eve's love for Adam, she then eat the fruit as well. .
After eating the apple, both of them realize what sin is. They already realized that they are both nude and that is the first sin ever committed. When God found out what they did, He punish them and send them out of the Garden of Eden and reminded them that they now have to work hard in order for them to eat.

If ever Adam and eve didn't disobeyed God we are all in the Garden of Eden. No sin. No sickness. No death.

I hope my answer help you.. :)

Because they were convinced by the serpent that eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil would make them like God, in that they would know right from wrong. If you think about it, the serpent told the truth, as that's exactly what eating from that tree did.

Though a point of interest is that nowhere in the story is it mentioned that it was an apple tree. The particular thing eaten from the tree is never made clear.

I believe that most of these answers are wrong because Adam and Eve used to live in heaven and God told them to eat from everywhere except that tree but the devil was so jealous of Adam because angels prostrated to Adam but not Iblis he refused. then he become his enemy, and he whispered evil to him and he said, "O Adam! shall I lead thee to the Tree of Eternity and to a kingdom that never decays?" In the result, they both ate of the tree, and so their nakedness appeared to them: they began to sew together, for their covering, leaves from the Garden: thus did Adam disobey his Lord, and allow himself to be seduced. and then they were sent to earth. That's all :) all this is in the Quran ;)
