about massage
why cant i (a cyclist) get a massage that covers the entire legs an glutes? is there a law against that in ohio? i dont get it.
after races i would really like to get a good massage to help with the soreness. i always specify that I need entire legs/hips/done, and they always seem ok with it. And then, if i am lucky, MAYBE 75% of the legs get done and maybe the sides of hips. Is my request really that big of a deal or NoNo?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

No. Your request is not a big deal, nor is it a no no.
All you need to do is find a massage therapist that knows and understands Sports Massage.
Then, all you need to do is communicate how you'd like your massage.
"I'd like you to spend about 80% on my legs, gluts, hips and feet... and then what ever else you find tight, go for it".
If you let them know where you want the massage to be focused and what areas really need attention, I bet you'll get what you ask for.
I sometimes run into therapists that are used to working a certain routine and have a hard time breaking free of old habits. If that's the case, then just find a another person that covers the sports side of massage.
I have been in the business for over 15 years and worked on many cyclists with the California Sports Massage Team.
Just keep the flow of communication open and you'll find a great therapist that's just right for you.
Good luck!

I replied to this a few days ago but I dont think it went through. As stated in my original question, I do always tell the MT what I am looking for and I try to seek out MTs who offer sports massage thinking that would be my best bet. I was thinking maybe it has something to do with draping and what can or cant be done. but i just dont consider glutes or legs to be 'private' so i really dont care what is exposed or not. But maybe again i am off course here and just havent found the right MT. If any are in Columbus that you know are good let me know! :-)
Thanks for the reply. I am glad to hear that I am not asking for something unreasonable. But the main problem is that I have expressed exactly what I need to these therapist. Maybe I have just had a run of bad luck. I was thinking maybe it had something to do with the draping and there were certain things, like glutes, that they couldn't expose and therefor massage. Does this come into play? I understand they want to protect the client but I am not worried about that, I just want a complete massage. Any further advice you can give?
