Why aren't the Simpsons funny anymore?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The characters that we grew up loving have become mere caricatures of the characters that they used to be.
Homer used to be dumb but well intentioned. Lisa used to be an innocent know-it all, Bart the troubled scamp, and Maggie... yeah.
Now Homer is just dumb, Lisa is just a know it all, Bart is just a troublemaker, etc... This can be cross applied with every character.
The characters are no longer reminiscent of a real family with funny quirks - they're now just a series of tired jokes piled on top of empty character shells.

My theory is that "The Simpsons" has not changed in quality over the past twenty-one years. It's pretty much all been good stuff. What's really happening is that society's attention-span has gone down the tubes - thanks in part to "Family Guy"'s thirty second jokes. I've found that the same people who think "The Simpsons" aren't funny also watch "Family Guy" on a regular basis, and the people who think "The Simpsons" are as good as ever, seldom watch "Family Guy." But that's just my theory.

With exception, I hate family guy and the current Simpsons. As far as psychological analysis of people not having the germane intelligence or attention span to watch the current seasons of the Simpsons, I retort that if something is genuinely good it should naturally keep one's attention. The Simpsons have once had this quality, and seasons three through eight, nine and even ten are some of the finest works among cartoon history (Debatably including: Bugs Bunny, Ren and Stimpy, Southpark,The Animated Series of Batman, Droopy….The Simpons is in there too but only a portion of the seasons, which is also a case of a few that I mentioned too). What they are doing now is like what they did with stuff like Terminator 3 (which wasn't even a pimple on Terminater 2's ass) and the echelon of laughable horror remakes they have been making where people have the priority of money above the quality of the work using the acclaimed popularity of an image that has been successful to get the money but never fully doing justice to the successors' art. Even further, what they've done with the Simpsons movie and the new seasons leaves a stain in my mind whenever people bring the Simpsons up to me, and when people say I like the Simpsons," I say, "I do to, but not anymore." I wish they could have left the brilliance be. There will always be that divide of what the Simpons were and what they aren't now.

No, the jokes have actually changed. The simpsons simply ran out of material. It is possible to call a simpsons episode "classic" while another "drivel." I watch the older ones now and I still find them funny. Many other people do, to. So that disproves your theory.

The Simpsons has been around for so long now everyone knows whats going to come next, after watching it for a while you can predict whats going to happen. Your subconcious knows before it even happens so it just dosent seem humorus when it does happen.

Yes, they have used up all their ideas. They've been going for a VERY long time, and they find it hard to come up with new ideas. In fact, I heard that they were going to try for only two more seasons because they are running out of content.
