Why aren't Saturns made anymore?

Why aren't Saturns made anymore? Were these vehicles full of mechanical issues?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Saturn was a subsidy of General Motors. As part of the restructuring of GM the Saturn brand was shutdown. They tried to sell the brand to Penske but the deal fell through and so the Saturn company was liquidated.

By restructuring he means the company went bankrupt for selling us cars that were twenty years behind technology wise. The government made special laws so they could sell us unsafe trucks and SUV's disguised as cars but eventually had to buy the company themselves. The Saturns did not make it in the deal.

As you've read, Saturn was part of GM, which as part of the bailout, had to downsize. Saturn was originally intended to be a separate entity from GM, but GM couldn't keep their paws out of it.
Overall Saturn's had average to above average reliability (depends on whose data you read!). GM has agreed to make parts available for several years (I read 10...) check this site, and find a lot more detail: http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=saturn+parts+availability&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
