Yes I do think you need to qualify that statement to some women. Some women might be happy; some could really care less; and some think he is a crackpot. I actually straddle to two last categories because I think he is a crackpot, and I could partially care less. I think derosa is correct in that we don't know what his marriage to Nicole was really like. We sometimes don't know what the marriages are like of friends and family members let alone celebrities that we don't know. They portray people we like on the screen; therefore, they must be likable in person. Right? This has proven to be false on numerous occasions. I can think of Russell Crowe as one such celebrity character that people love in the movies but in person seems to be quite the egomaniac terror.

Tom Cruise was the epitome of hot in his day, but that ship has long since sailed. His antics on Oprah's couch and with Matt Lauer really just confirmed that he was not only over the top but that he lived in his own little world populated by himself, his wife, and the aliens that promise him eternal salvation.

I actually feel bad that Kate is so disillusioned. She had a career going but who's to say that it would have lasted long. Being married to Tom made her life even easier in many ways. But again, we don't know what life is like in the Cruise household. Maybe she really suffers from stockholm syndrome.

That is one couple that could really disappear from the media and I don't think many people would care too much. He could later reappear on one of those "where are they now" shows. I don't see the fascination with them. Then again, I don't see the fascination with brad and angie and their adoptive kids either. I did really like that SNL skit that someone posted a few weeks back with Angelina and madonna talking about their adoptive babies. That made me chuckle.

I actually liked when they roasted Joan Rivers and she came out with a dozen kids saying she was doing her Jolie impersanation.

I don't care about his relationships one way or the other, on a personal level, since I don't know any of those people. I also don't feel sorry for celebrities when they get divorced, because it's far more of a shock when they actually stay married. Most of those people jump from "eternal" marriage to marriage like a game of musical chairs. They're just paying for their impulsiveness. That they drag children into it is unfortunate, but what were they expecting? To be Hollywood's one and only 50-year-long marriage? Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating and some of these people do stay married, but they are the vast minority. The same creative/impulsive/dramatic personality that allows you to be a good actor or actress also seems to make for a crappy ability to commit.

I do feel a little sorry for Katie Holmes because she is indeed married to a lunatic, and I wouldn't be surprised if she was pretty trapped in that relationship. Nicole Kidman is probably happy she got away from that trainwreck.

I guess there are always those who are just happy to see someone find a place of happiness in their life...perhaps some people believe rumours they read in tabloids - such as believing that the original wife "deserved" for things to end in some way; or perhaps there are those who sympathize more with the feelings of the "leave-er" than the "leave-ee" for some reason or another.

The situation is also quite a bit more complicated than that. Tom had not been married to his previous wife for a long time - it was almost five years between his divorce from Nicole and involvement with Katie. But maybe you meant more the situation with Penelope Cruz when his marriage ended way back.

As everyone knows, Scientology is an extremely important part of Tom's life, and it is generally thought that he was starting to get into it when he married Nicole. It's thought that this was always a bit of an issue in their relationship, although obviously I can't confirm that. :) Many people feel that it was their different views on this big part of Tom's life that was a major reason for the end of their marriage?.... Of course, many people would still feel that it's wrong to end a marriage because the other person isn't fully "on board" or excited about your religion.

But maybe some of the people who are happy for Tom & Katie are those who have had an experience where they felt that staying in an old relationship was "holding them back" or not being true to themselves or something. Maybe they sympathise with the situation of trying to make a marriage work, but feeling that "the person I am has changed from who I was when I married"... I don't really believe in leaving a marriage for this reason, but some do...

If anything... maybe people had more of this angry reaction back in 2001 when he was involved with Penelope Cruz. Although I'm not sure what the situation was at this time - if he and Nicole were still living together right up to the point where this started, etc. But Katie is very unconnected with the idea of Tom leaving his wife. She was also closer to 30 than 20 when she got involved with Tom, although obviously she's still a lot younger than him.

I must say though, you may have met those who are "really happy" for Tom and Katie... but there are plenty of people who don't view them this way. Quite a lot of people view Tom as a crazy person, and Katie as even crazier for being happy to be involved with him and fully on board with the Scientology thing. There are plenty who sympathise with Nicole Kidman much more. There are both kinds of views.... there really is quite a lot of variety between how people view relationships and why and when they should end, and unfortunately this is one of the reasons why relationships can be hard... there are such huge gaps between what people believe about relationships.

Thanks for the interesting question, I enjoyed raving on about this. :)
