Fair or not, Michael Jackson was a much more iconic figure than Farrah Fawcett. Moreover, Farrah's death had been a looming possibility for a while now, given her battle with anal cancer. Jackson's death was shocking, out of the blue. Those types of deaths always tend to garner more coverage.

I think a lot has to do with the fact that Farrah has been sick and dying for some time now, everyone was basically waiting for it to happen. The death of MJ caught everyone by surprise. They both will be missed though!

I don't know if that is true... she had a pretty impressive career... and her time in the lime light was huge then... the difference is she hasn't been in the public eye for awhile.

Because Michael Jackson was such a huge star, when he decided to call himself the king of pop it was not all bluster, can you really think of any bigger male pop star? The key word is pop. While ,the public knew he had health problems no one really expected or wanted him to die. With Farah she only had one year on Charlie’s Angels, while she was well liked and every kid I knew had that poster or a t-shirt with her famous swimsuit pic on it she did not have the long lasting broad appeal that Michael Jackson did. I remember him with the Jackson five before I started kindergarten and had various albums or 45s of his. I went out and got off the wall when it came out almost 30 years ago, thrill was released when I was in high school and was still going strong when I was in boot camp (fort Jackson) AIT and when I got out. Then little sis burst on the scene in 1986 with Control and then he released bad, the Jackson’s have been such a huge part of the cultural scene for over 40 years. You have to go back to Elvis to find someone that has that level of popularity. don’t get me wrong I like Stevie Wonder, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles later stuff and solo careers and quite a few others but no one really had his level of success, now success does not make it good but as far as pop music goes I really cant say male singer was better at it them him, funny thing is Janet is pretty good at it herself definitely in the top 10.
