The majority of Americans DON'T believe that. We're basically a pretty well-informed bunch and know that that "Obama is a Muslim" thing was just a rumor. And some people will latch onto a rumor--good or bad or otherwise--if it suits their cause. In this case, a relatively small number of misinformed people who did not want to support Obama embraced the Muslim rumor as another "point" against him ... not that, inherently, there's anything wrong with being Muslim.
