Alan Moore's Miracle Man.

That was the comic that restarted me as an adult comic book reader, and Moore has remained the master. For years he refused to allow his stories to be made in to movies. So I was really glad when that changed, even if it did start with "from Hell." It's just gotten better from there. It will be very interesting to see how Watchmen comes out.

Tom Strong would be cool too. Also Promethea. Yeah, actually, maybe I'll change my vote to Promethea.

Birds of Prey. (They have a made-for-TV thing I believe, but it is NOT for theatrical release, so I wouldn't count it as a movie for the purposes of this question).

Green Lantern is in development now, and that, DONE CORRECTLY, has the potential to be a huge franchise. Only recently has the comic itself begun to live up to its potential. The story is basically about a galactic police force that can manifest their will power.

As for properties that haven't turned into movies at all yet, Neil Gaiman's version of SANDMAN is probably the biggest character that has not gone forward yet (though for at least 15 years, there have been scripts floating around). A huge, devoted fanbase made up equally of men and women, and an open-ended concept that can choose to follow good vs. evil binary opposition plots, or pursue more complex and subtle themes easily. It would be a guaranteed blockbuster, should the treatment of it please fans. The trap would be to fall into the 80s goth fashion look of the comic and make it too much of a Burton-stylized film. The story was made to be adaptable to whatever current trends are.

Most of the characters I came up with have already been made into films, or have films in production or pre-production (even Sgt. Rock!). Here's a list to check out if anyone wants to peruse the list for future film superheroes.

I cast my vote for the little man... "The Atom" from DC comics. The Ray Palmer version introduced in 1961 was a unique hero that has yet to see the big screen.

ITS GOT TO BE WOLVERINE !!!!!!!!

http://i39.tinypic.com/2lm8nir.gif

HISTORY---------

The man known as Wolverine was born as James Howlett in the late 19th century and is the son of John and Elizabeth Howlett. He grew up weak and frail and needed round the clock care. To counter that, his parents hired a girl named Rose to keep him happy. Under Rose's care, they would go on outings and James would play with a young boy called 'Dog'. Logan, the son of Thomas Logan who was the grounds keeper for the Howlett mansion. The Logans lived in a small shack on the poor side of town. Thomas was an abusive alcoholic who had a strong hate for the Howletts, especially John Howlett. At first, it seemed that Thomas hated the Howletts because of their possessions, later, it was revealed that he was, in fact, having an affair with Elizabeth. Later on, Dog tries to force himself on Rose and rape her, then also killed James’ pet dog. Afterwards when John finds this out he fires Thomas immediately. This only makes Thomas resent John even more, and in a drunken rage, with his son and with rifles, breaks into the property. Thomas tries to convince Elizabeth to run away with him, but John comes into the room and the two engage in a fight. James is awoken by the noise and runs into the room, only to see Thomas shoot his dad dead. James was horrified and traumatized when he sees his father killed which results in the mutation of claws to manifests. James, angered at his father’s killer, jumps and attacks Thomas, killing him in the process. James then proceeds to scar his son, Dog. Rose, confused on what to do flees with James. The police are later summoned to the mansion, and "Dog" blames the murder entirely on Rose.
Rose was wanted for the murder of the Howletts, and James was exiled by his grandfather. The two become friends, and they join a mining colony called "British Columbia." James has forgotten his past due to the trauma, including his name and decides on a new name: Logan Vernon. As time passes by, his mutant abilities and his physical build develops and he is dubbed the Wolverine by his fellow miners. However, James' grandfather is on his death bed, and summons Dog to look for him. James' grandfather originally exiled him, but he had a change of heart and wanted to see his grandson. When Dog finally found him, both James and Dog engaged in a fight. Just as they are about to fight, Wolverine extended his claws and Rose is knocked into the fight by the crowd, and impales herself. Mad with grief, James exiles himself, living with wolves.

Firestorm

Firestorm has the ability to rearrange the atomic and subatomic structure of matter, rearranging subatomic particles to create objects of different atomic characteristics of equal mass. He can not only change the atomic composition of an object (e.g., transmuting lead into gold of equal mass) but he can also change its shape. He cannot, however, affect organic matter. If he does there may be painful, even lethal, feedback. This organic limitation does not extend to his person as he can change himself at will, allowing him to regenerate tissue, to shapeshift, and to survive indefinitely without food, water and air. Much like a Green Lantern's limitations, Firestorm can only create items the "driver" of the Firestorm matrix is able to understand the workings of. Unlike a Green Lantern's creations, Firestorm's alterations are permanent unless he reverses them.

DC's Lobo. Easy to hollywood-ize with the many variations of origin stories that have been spun so far. Anti-heroes tend to make box-office bank. Find a "remarkably good" actor to carry it (ala Hellboy, Ironman) and you have a hit.
