The early psychedelic pop music of Pink Floyd was mostly written by Syd Barrett. He was in the same songwriting style of Donovan, writing songs about dreams and fantasy characters. As his mental health began to decline, other band members would bring material and develop in a collaborative fashion with the group. At this point Roger Waters takes over much of the direction of the music, and writes most of the lyrics. By the time of the release of the The Wall, he had taken over all aspects of the music to the point where it was basically a solo album featuring members of Pink Floyd.
