Who will be the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals in 2010?

With the retirement of Kurt Warner who do you think will be the starter for the Arizona Cardinals in the upcoming season? While most people will say the job falls to Matt Leinart it’s pretty clear that the franchise is not exactly sold on the quarterback’s ability to lead the team, witnessed by the fact that he’s been the man in waiting for several years now. Apparently there are now rumors that the Cardinals are going after Marc Bulger and it seems if they were to acquire him, he would be the favorite to start.

I will answer this assuming the Arizona Cardinals do not get Mark Bulger. The quarterbacks currently on the roster are Derek Anderson, Matt Leinart and John Skelton. Anderson is in his sixth season. He has thrown for 7,083 yards, 46 touchdowns and 45 interceptions. His best year was in 2007 when he passed for 3,787 yards, 29 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. Leinart is in his fifth season and has spent most of his career as a backup to Kurt Warner. As a rookie in 2006, Leinart threw for 2,547 yards, 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. For his career he has thrown for 3,893 yards, with 14 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. John Skelton is a rookie with good size but I doubt he'll have any shot at being the starting quarterback this season. He'll be a third quarterback on this team this season. Even though Anderson has better career statistics and one season that is far superior to any that Leinart ever had, I have a gut feeling that Leinart is the man that the Cardinals want to be the starter. I think he'll be on a fairly short leash though and Anderson will step in if Leinart falters. Now if Bulger is signed, I agree that he will be the starter. Leinart would be the backup with Anderson and Skelton battling for number three.
