Normans is a group of people who gave their name to Normandy. They are descendants of the Viking conquerors of the native populations which are mostly Frankish and Gallo-Roman stock. Normans emerged first in the first half of the 10th century and gradually evolved in the following centuries until they disappeared in the early 13th century. Normandy is found in the northern region of France, and the name "Normans" is derive from "Northmen" or "Norsemen", named after the Vikings from Scandinavia which is the founder of Normandy.

Rollo was an original Norman he was given land in France to prevent attacks by his viking kinsmen. The Bayeux tapestry is famous for its pictures of early Normans who wore chain mail and had kite shields. The Normans invaded countries from Sicily to Ireland. They were brave soldiers and great builders of stone castles.
