Who was your idol when you were young?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

As a kid, I was completely mesmerized by Maverick from Top Gun. Not Tom Cruise, mind you, but Maverick himself. I don't think there was a boy age 8-12 that didn't ask for an F-14 Tomcat after that movie came out! After the Top Gun years, my most notable idol was Jimmy Page - the riff-master himself from the greatest band of all time - Led Zeppelin. Now, during the current phase of my life, my idol - as cheesy as it may sound - is my wife. She is everything I wish I could be in heart and mind, and I respect her infinitely. If I could be half the person she is, I'd consider myself lucky! (and a shout-out to my boss/Jedi instructor Jason Calacanis. The dude's brilliant!)

I didn't watch much TV growing up. I think the person I idolized was the retired teacher who lived across the street from us. She had all these wonderful books she would let me borrow and she gave me free piano lessons for awhile. Their house was always so peaceful and quiet I would sit and read in her library for hours.

Amelia Earhart. She never let anyone tell her she couldn't do something just be cause whe was a girl. She held her own with the big boys and they treated her with respect.

Growing up I didn't really have a lot of people that were good influences in my life. My Idol I would say probably Janet Jackson, she was young when starting things and her life wasn't always hunky dory either and so yes she has to be my Idol, I would like to meet her one day.

When I was in high school my number one idol is Tom Cruise. I would watch every movie showing from "Risky Business," "Top Gun" "Cocktail". My favorite movie of him is "Top Gun" I just love his mischievous smile in one of the scenes there. I have many posters of him placed inside my room. My brother even treat me to his movie even if we have to travel for hours because we live in a suburb and our place only shows old movies at that time. The nearest city is about 2 1/2-hour drive from our place.
I would imagine the movie over and over again. I even bought a cassette tape of the soundtrack of the movie Top Gun. Then when I was in college I bought a CD of it.
I use to feel jealous of the first woman he married (Mimi Rogers) and I was secretly happy when they divorce. I was already in college when he got married to Nicole Kidman and I am not as affected as I was before. Now I can freely share this to my two daughters and they agree that Tom is handsome, next to their father of course.
