Who was your first favorite music artist/group?

Mine was The Cranberries and my first ever record was their No Need To Argue album. I still like them although not as strongly as before and I prefer their earlier albums.

Other firsts are Alanis Morissette and, uh, Backstreet Boys.

Yours? A YouTube link would be nice for some music trippin' down memory lane.

You asked for first. If everyone really thought about "first" they'd be saying Josey and the Pussycats, etc.

Even though I am only 41... The very first music I ever heard was The Beatles at about age 5.

I found my mom's old albums and couldn't get enough of them!

Spice Girls of course! My and a friend loved them - we had the pencil sets, stickers from gum, gift bags, posters, all the books - anything we could get our hands on. Whenever I got money, I used it to buy more Spice Girls things. Me and 4 friends did a Spice Girls song in our school talent show in 3rd grade, complete with costume and choreographed dance (and won!). We were 8 when Spice World came out, and we made shirts, waiting in line, and saw it opening night, and we were SO excited! I was always Sporty Spice (Mel C).. Ahh those were the days!

I was lucky enough to see them in concert in 2008 when they performed in Toronto, and I went to their second last show ever. I paid over 100 dollars for tickets ( I think they were something like $129) but we got awesome seats. I brought my roommate and he cried when they came on stage, he was that excited.

Pictures I took (with my terrible camera)

Derek and the Dominoes-Layla. Then Clapton went into Cream. And even before that when he played with The Yardbirds when he played with Stevie Winwood.

I had a rather interesting upbringing - my dad was in the Air Force, so we lived overseas most of my childhood, and while there was AFN (the Armed Forces Network - American TV and radio broadcasts), we didn't own a TV and I didn't really think to turn on the radio much until middle school. So the very first things I listened to were tapes, and I would say my first favorite "artists" was probably Mozart or Bach. I used to listen to the Classical Kids tapes religiously, which were audiobooks of famous composers' lives set to their own music. After that, I started listening to my parents' music stash, which was Led Zepplin and Enya, mainly - the "Mission Impossible" and "Goldeneye" soundtracks were also a big hit, though my parents were reluctant for me to watch those movies. My dad used to travel around and buy me CDs from the places he'd been, and I definitely liked listening to Notis Sfakianakis' album "50 Vima" and trying to sing along, haha. By fourth grade or so, was a big fan of Led Zepplin's "Black Dog" and "Cabin Fever" from "Muppet Treasure Island." Then we started going to London to watch musicals on the West End, and I memorized the "Phantom of the Opera" and "Oliver!" soundtracks. By the end of our stay in Belgium, I had started gaining an awareness of mass media, and had had brief encounters with songs like Hanson's "Mmbop." At that point it's history - Eifel 65, Spice Girls, you name it, I could sing it. :)

I'd put YouTube clips, but I'm at work right now, and unfortunately can't access YouTube... For those of you looking for a walk down memory lane though, I highly recommend this awesome list of the Top 100 90s songs!

interesting that your first love was classical. it was only in my 20's that i developed a liking for classical stuff. mostly it's my unobtrusive work music. :)

True, there were other stuff I listened to prior to Cranberries but wouldn't actually call em "favorite". You know you're really into stuff when you can't stop playing. xD

Yeah, definitely! I remember listening (and awkwardly dancing to) to music with my sister when I was really young - stuff like Tears For Fears and Debbie Gibson, but I didn't really start listening to anything over and over again until I got those Classical Kids tapes. :)

Well growing up in a very Christian home, nothing but Christian music was played or sung. I would have to say it was Andrea Crouch and the Disciples. That man could play the piano and belt out a song like nobodies business. My mom once took me to one of his concerts it was the first concert I had ever been too.

Then I grew up, and started listening to stuff other than Christian. To this day my all time favorite group is Journey with Steve Perry as lead singer. I just wish I had been able to see them in concert. The new guy that does leads has a decent voice but it sure isn't the same. He just doesn't have the power or feeling Perry always had.

Definitely the Backstreet Boys!! I was obsessed to no end, especially with Brian Littrell. I had pictures covering my wall. Brian has his own wall, AJ McLean had his own, Nick Carter had his own and then Howie Durough and Kevin Richardson had their own too! It was madness....

One of my favorite music videos is Larger Then Life:

I also loved this one, since I love costumes and Halloween:

I also enjoyed the Spice Girls, Nsync, 98 Degrees, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Eminem. I bought a bunch of CDs at one time, my first CDs ever and it was one from each of the above artists...
