If one thinks of the most famous son of Chicago and ask the people born there about it, the answer may surprise some. His name is Richard J. Daley and he is remembered because he was the city’s Mayor for decades. Mayor Daley dominated politics in the city since he assumed office in his first term, in the year 1955, after working his way to the top from the politics at the precinct level. He also became a force in the context of national Democratic politics as Illinois was one of those key places, the big industrial states that were crucial in the past for any Democratic Presidential aspirants.
