Saul is best-known as the first king, BUT there was a little-known attempt at establishing a monarchy before him, in the Book of Judges.

In Judges 8: 22-23: "Then the men of Israel said unto Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son's son also; for thou hast saved us out of the hand of Midian. And Gideon said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: Jehovah shall rule over you."

While this was a noble sentiment, Gideon's son Abimelech (he is referred to as the son of Jerubaal, which was another name for Gideon) didn't think so. In the following chapter (9: 6): "And all the men of Shechem assembled themselves together, and all the house of Millo, and went and made Abimelech king, by the oak of the pillar that was in Shechem."

It should also be remembered that Abimelech is Hebrew for "My father is king."

That would be Saul

1 Samuel 10:1 says "Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head and kissed him and said, “Has not the Lord anointed you to be prince over his people Israel? And you shall reign over the people of the Lord and you will save them from the hand of their surrounding enemies. "

For the full biblical version, see 1 Samuel 8-10

a jew's (my) answer is shaul (yes most people call him saul but the proper name is in fact shaul in the Torah) since he was chosen by G-D and contacted by the profet shmuel, even though due to misusing his "kingly" powers, he was dethroned and replaced by david who shaul tryed to murder twice, david was not son of shaul but another man, even though when he was chosen by G-D he was just a boy, he ruled 7 years in Jevron and the rest of his reign in Jerusalem, after David's death, he was replaced by shlomo (Salomon) who was granted eternal piece, fortune and wisdom by G-D.
Shaul died commiting suicide
David died sick
Shlomo i'm not sure
