Who was the first cowboy? or what ethnic group was first to ride/straddle a horse?

Everyone has their own opinions and beliefs behind the first cowboys... so I'd like to hear yours.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

This is what I was able to find. I really haven't heard many stories about cowboys. That's weird since I'm from the West and a great-great-granddaughter of a pioneer. Oh, well.

I doubt there will be an exact answer to this question but many believe that the horses were domesticated for riding in 4,500 BC.

Probably the Sumerians of Lower Mesopotamia. This is a guess. I would think that the evidence might consist of drawings or carvings of people riding horses.

Yup. I like the idea of Mesopotamian cowboys from hell.

The answer to that is shrouded in the mists of pre-history. The practice is very old.
